Thanks guysd, this should help  - this is what happens when the previous owners don't clear the drain hole on the filler neck!

One more question - any one knopw if the mk3 vr6 and gti tanks are the same?

Yes they are

Nice one.

Just phoned VW Parts -

£303 exc vat for a tank (no sender.pump included)
£133 + £226 exc vat for power steering pipe network.

I hope the wire brushing pays off and my contact gets his finger out and gets the tank off his vr6 for me. Not wanting to scrap the gti as I assume too many have been scrapped over the last few years.

Sod paying those prices, you could buy another donor mk3 for that much!

Agreed plus you could make some money back by selling the rest on.
