rolling road bhp for 8v?
« on: 28 June 2005, 18:10 »
hi there, back from rolling road now and my ignition timing is done. they said its getting 94 bhps and said its only a couple down on what it should be so there is nothing to worry about.what is the standard bhp on a rolling road, im told its not the same as factory figures.
it has ss magnex exhaust and k&n air filter (was on when ibought it). they suggested putting an original air filter system back on as the k&n brings in the hot air from the engine area, and may be causing me problems.will it really be much better? and my blue temp sensor is fine apparently!!
but it is running much better than before, its not as horrible and loud (re-stuffed rear silencer by a good friend)and isnt backpopping so much. also alot faster.
but, it does seem louder still sometimes than others, but not unbareable anymore due to the stuffing. its a mystery...

In theory no it shouldn't  but they do if you let off and change down as it throws unburnt fuel vapour down the hot exhaust it's just one of those things! standard exhausts don't get as hot as stainless ones so it doesn't really happen but they go rusty and sound cack!

cheers.its only backpopping when changing down like you said. about the bhp figures, i was told rolling road is different from factory figures, as they take factory measurements directly from engine or sommat. wondering if anyone else has rolling roaded bhps so low and still be allright, or what average is. is it that low 94bhp? nowt to be concerned about they said... perfectly normal they said. apart from the middle two cylinders are sliiiightly down in complression but also nothing to be concerned about apparently.
i think i have hypochondria for my car...!!

Bhp from the wheels is less than from the flywheel (engine as per the manufacturers stats) as it loses some in making things turn etc. The only time i had a car rolling roaded it was my 1.3 metro - book 87bhp i think and wheels 73bhp...  Are you 8valve or 16valve? If its 8 i would say you are not far off.  I did a reading with my G-Tech and got 108bhp, little optimistic i thought!
