Oil level/pressure buzzer
« on: 19 July 2012, 06:48 »
Went round a roundabout last night quite enthusiastically (as you do), with the indicator on, and at the same time i had a loud buzzer chirping at me...sounded like the sort of buzzer you associate with having a towbar on, when indicating...

turns out that a buzzer sounds when the engine is either low on oil or low level and above 2000rpm.....although oil light wasn't on..

bit clever really for an old Golf

have been putting off topping up the oil as needed an oil change....have now changed oil and filter....187k and still going..!!

The buzzer is a low pressure warning more than likely brought on by a very low oil level been swooshed to one side if the sump when cornering with force. You can get baffled sump pans to help prevent this happening.
You should never put off topping up the oil regardless of service interval.

You were lucky, never a good idea to run low on oil.
