The main problem will be the connector, as you can get a converter to take you from Halogen to Xenon but not the other way.
The manual levelling controller would need to be added and I'm not sure if the wiring would be there from the switch in the dash to the headlights.
The AFS controller would need to be coded out as it would throw up warnings on the dash.
The rear lights would also need the coding changed.

It does seem an odd thing to do, but I would hang onto your original lights if I were you.

You ought to be able to buy a set of standard lights for not too much money, but it will really devalue your car when you come to sell it if you don't have the original lights to refit.

Personally I don't get it. Even with xenons and LEDs, the GTI isn't exactly a "look at me" sort of car. Most go unnoticed, even by people that think they know about cars.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I'm shure a GTI owner with the ''standard'' lights would be more than happy to do a straight swap.If you want to really be non GTI you need the light off a bogo model as the GTI lights have the black surrounds &  bogo models have chrome.

Interesting decisions

Rear lights will be relatively easy to change and code

Fronts will take a bit more time to find the correct coding but is possible

When I get my new GTi in September I want to make it look like a 1.2 Twist.

So off come the Monzas in exchange for wheel trims.
The leather seats to be swapped for cloth.
Twin exhausts to be changed for a single peashooter. etc etc
Of course all of the interior spec would need to go too to really get the poverty spec look..........

Sorry, everyone to their own but I just don't get why you would want a GTi to look like something less
