New Here :) What to look out for?
« on: 18 July 2012, 21:09 »
Just thought I would drop in and say hi, I am currently 18 and soon to be 19,I currently have a 1.2 16V corsa B but I am saving for a mk4 golf gti. Insurance is only gonig to be £1300 for a gti when I turn 19, and going to get a £1000 loan out as well as save a grand up for the car.

Can you pick up a decent 1.8 or 2.0 golf gti for less then £2000? Sure you can.

My question is, what do I need to look out for on both of the models I listed above :)

Thanks everyone and hi :)

avoid all of them.........dark gloomy money pits

or save more and get a fully modded one - will save you an arm and a leg
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

Thanks mate and what is so bad about the 2 litre?

Take it back insurance will be £1400 for a Golf GTI 1.8T, still not too bad at 19 right?

I am 19 on the 30th and have 2 Years no claims (drove on provisional and got a deal).

But yea depending on the year of the golf it ranges from £1300-£1480 which isn't too bad.

Is it likely to pick a Mk4 GTi 1.8T up for about £2000 or less?

Nah no point buying a fully modded one want to get one and make it my own. What are peoples thoughts on a £1000 loan over 3 years for about £35 quid a month?
