Battery tray in boot

hi all im after moving the battery to the boot in my mk2 due to space. ive sourced a wiring kit from a beemer, but im unsure what to do about the battery tray. whats everyone else done? so far my choices are buy one of these universal things off ebay or buy one from a car and weld it to the boot floor

I have mine in the middle of where the back seats would be. Had a custom battery box made for my battery and just used self drilling screws to bolt the box in. Solid. Earth onto the body somewhere, where the seatbelt bolts on is good. Then just extend the starter motor and fusebox cables.

Better to run a sealed battery with a vent to the outside, much safer.

If i were to cut 4/6 30mm holes in the floor with a hole saw and raise the battery tray up 25mm would that be sufficient? obviously id have to stop the water+exhaust fumes coming in but i already have a plan for that

Just a sealed battery tray with a tube to the outside (underneath maybe) will be sufficient mate.

something like this

its a sealed fibreglass box, used for marine vehicles and motorsport according to its description. a friend has an mx5 which has the battery in the boot. it uses a tray with a small tube on tbe bottom going off with a sealed type battery. can i just do thisand use the battery jacket the car has fitted now? ive reAd up a bit and it says about the battery giving off gases. im guessing theyre poisionous gases?

me too which is why im trying to find out the best way to do it. so long as my stuffed toys in the car are ok im ok too

It is not really a question of being poisoned but batteries give of fumes which in an enclosed space can be very dangerous / explosive so the battery needs to be a sealed version with a vent tube to the outside world.

If in doubt check out the BMW ones in the boot and you will see the little vent tube.

i already have the sealed battery. im goin to use an m3 tray with some plastic venting hose. getting on with it this weekend!
