Golf 1.8t starting problems !!

Right don't know where to start but here it goes ..

I've been building my golf mk4 back up and finally got my engine in :-)
At the moment not all sensors are connected but a few are down the bottom end ..
We hooked the battery up just to make sure it started ok but it won't even turn over !!
Not sure if the battery is any good but my main question is .. Would the car run without most of the upper sensors connected ??

not 100% sure but the wifes a3 wont start if the maf sensor is not connected so i would have thought you may have a few codes come up

why would you want to start the engine when its only partially done you could end up messing it up all together 1.8t's are feckers for throwing a wobbly

Only want to run it for a minute just to check engines ok so then it can go for painting you see ..
Trouble is its not even trying to turn over ..

ah right cant you borrow a battery or get it charged
