Well it's good to have you back guys been struggling along without any advice!

I have a wobbly front and back big bumper   just another one of those manyana jobs that needs doing!

also I have fitted spax rsx front coilovers but the front suspension mount covers (metal dish thing) are now a good 4cm clear of the top of the turrett and the passenger side is knocking like a b***h is it my top mounts that are shafted? if so can i get any uprated ones? polyurethane or maybe g60/rallye ones??

and I finally took the plunge to drill my 16v airbox but instead removed the ve vill mek ziz noisy car quiet and stealthy box on the wing side of the box exposing a nice big hole and then a little plastic cover on the inner wing and now it finally sounds like a monster!!! fuel econ seems to have gone up too which is nice!!!!

Missed bloody Leeds show as well    :embarassed:

It is good to be back!

The bumpers should be easy enough. Get under the car and you will see bolts either side, these are probably loose. If its not these then undo them anyway and take the bumper off completely, this will no doubt reveal the problem elsewhere.

As for your shot mounts i belive you can fit others such as G60 ones, i think you can fit mk3 ones too. But i just got the origional 16v ones and they are fine and will last another 12 years. The only thing i will say is buy genuine ones from VW as aftermarket ones tend to be of poor quality.

And As for Leeds, you missed a good show. Theres always next year though.

Yep good to be back!

I was advised that when you take the front bumpers off that you shoud support the engine with a trolley jack, put some wood between the jack and the sump, just to take the weight and safer too!

My front bumper is also loose, but the four bolts are solid, apparently the plastic bumper has clips to which it inserts into the metal frame, i think mine have snapped on one side!

I had a go but i really needed a breaker bar to get those bolts off, on really tight! I gave up :) Will have a go again soon!

No idea on how to secure the plastic though if the clips have snapped? anyone got any good suggestions?

Cheers

Super glue and gaffer tape

Depends where its broke but silicone or liquid nails often work a treat.

There are usually a couple of plastic brackets on each side of the bumper (on the wings) these tend to snap after a while due to fatigue and people pushing down on them (err i did this trying to get a zender chin spoiler off, sh!tty thing made me mad so i broke the bumper bracket  :embarassed: )

Best option as said is to remove the bumper, you don't need to support the engine as the mounts for that are completely seperate to the bumper. once undoing the bolts then it should just slide off towards you.

I second that. There is no need to support the engine as the bumper isnt connected to the cross member or any engine mounts.

Well removed the front and rear bumpers and found the cause of the problem, the bolts holding the plastic bumper onto the metal bumper were loose not really loose but loose enough for it to be wonky and wobbly so tightened those up and bumpers are solid now :)
My car has faded quite a bit in the sun when you see the original factory colour behind the bumper and the faded body hmmmmm need a respray now the list goes on!
cheers guys.
