Engine/Dog Bone Mount?

Having a problem with my golf again  :rolleyes:

I'll try and explain it as best as I can  :grin:

Started about a month or 2 ago, can started making a noise like the wheel bearing was going, but jacked the car up checked all the wheels and they all were fine. That was about 3 weeks ago and the noise hasn't got any worse like if it was a bearing and I have done about 1000 miles since I last checked... and anything over 30/40 mph the car makes a nasty groan/grumbling noise. So thought it might be the CV joints, so checked them and there is only a small bit of play in them in and out(of the gearbox) which is normal but no play otherwise. And there is also now play in the wheels or any wishbone bushes  :huh:

Then I was driving yesterday and it got a lot worse and the car didn't feel safe over 50-55 at all. The front end felt quite 'floaty' at speed, also when braking the steering wheel wobbles(but not the peddle) and pulls to the right and when you stop braking then it straightens up again, same with accelerating hard and letting off fast the car tends to pull to the right. And the ride has went down hill big time, only way I can describe how the car feels over rough roads is that it feels like the 2 front tries are really flat. Also I noticed when going up kerbs to park the car makes a metallic clunk/ girding sound

So had a look at the car today and looks like it might be the engine or dog mount?

Here's a quick video anyway ( car is jacked up and am using my hands to rock the wheel back and forth)



Oh and the noise is the exhausts moving  :grin:

So could the dog mount be causing all of the problems?  :undecided:

IMO that is an excessive amount of play in that dog bone mount  :shocked: Replace it and you will notice a world of difference even if it isn't the cause of your problem.  :smiley:

Your dog bone bushes look knackered, replace them with poly it makes a world of difference.

Right in the middle of changing the dog bone and one of the bolts has snapped inside the subframe  :sick:

But hopefully it's got enough left on it to heat up and get with mole grips...

Anyone know the part number of the bolts that, bolt in to the sub frame?

Soak it in some WD40. Go get mr blow torch and some big grips  :evil:

Just ring up VW, describe the part to them and they fill find it easy.  :smiley:

Got it out, was easier then I thought it was going to be   :grin:

Just about to phone them up.

The dog done is a mess, snapped either side were is bolts to the sub frame as well  :drool:
