i'd tell him to do one.. buy and sort his own music collection like everyone else.. you don't need another computer with ios5 so he doesn't have to have another computer to sync it with ;)

you can authorise the ipad to sync with up to 5 computers. So it doesn't matter if he sync's with your computer he has 4 other people he can sponge music from.

you can also do this, just click on "manually manage music and videos"

This way you can simply have all your music in a folder on your HDD and click and drag from the folder to the "iwhateverdevice" icon in itunes. In theory you never need to sync your device with itunes at all.

If you want I can point you in the direction of a website called google where you can find out useful information like this and much more.

bit of a waste him syncing with your itunes as it will mean he always has to sync with your account or he will lose everything, plus means he can't buy apps etc if he doesn't have his own account  :undecided:

I don't have an iTunes account. I just use iTunes for sorting out music and for my iPod Classic, I don't buy music online.

Still no different if he syncs to your computer he can only sync to your itunes if he wants to keep the music he has obtained from you.

I hope by your statement you don't buy music online that you buy it from other sources  :lipsrsealed:
He might mean that he still buys music the old fashioned way, on actual media like CD and rip it to MP3, though Jay did mention that this was still illegal to current laws.

The manually manage content gas been a feature of iTunes since version 7 which came out in 2006 and can be used to drag music to whatever idevice ever since

Yes I too think iTunes is rubbish but it isn't that difficult to use. I remember when I got my first iPod in 2003 it came with musicmatch jukebox software which was even worse than iTunes.

Apart from the legality of it, I'm not sure I'd be willing to share my entire music collection with a friend as it's something that's taken years to build up.

As for iTunes, it's ok as a bit of software. Even if you don't buy your music from iTunes, you will still need an iTunes account (with a debit card for payments) to be able to access and download apps from the App Store on the iPad. There's no way around that. You even need to enter your iTunes password when updating apps.

you can create an itunes account without inputting a debit/credit card.

Again let me refer you to a website called google for more information:
