mk3 golf vr6, a hot hatch?

i still class class the mk3 gti as a hot hatch and the vr6 is a red hot hatch. i dont look at todays cars and think of them as hot hatches. they all look the bloody same today. yeah they may be very fast but they all lack character.

hi folks, just wanted to know your opinions on whether the mk3 golf vr6 is a hot hatch or not?

It was not marketed as a hot hatch hence why it never had the GTI badge, it was aimed at the executive market and was designed to take sales away from BMW and Mercedes.

As standard it is way too soft and underdamped to be a drivers car.

the car was designed over 20 years ago.
What gti NOW would you say that would have such a following as a golf in years to come? thats right NOUT!
model argument aside,thats a different one right there!
VR6 was a cruiser.
and what modern car sounds like that?
most new cars have all gone down the same route,spend the same on an old golf,and look who gets all the interest.
I also drive a brand new cooper,with all the toys in very bright colours,yet EVERYONE likes the golf not the mini!

YES it was,and in my view still is!
Look at the 0-60 times then and now of its competitors!

When Autocar tested one it was only 1 second quicker to 60 than a 16v.

Following on from many threads, I have been up to the loft today and found my Autocar road test year books, the figures make interesting reading, the figures that Autocar record are much more accurate than manufactures figures by the way.

Really, I never classed the 16v as being quick.

I disagree,It was really considering the average 20 years ago!
but back on point ,the vr6 came into its own after you got to 60,class of its own,I remember when they first came out as a teenager,riding around the south coast,not being afraid of anything on the road! (only passenger tho    )
