« on: 12 July 2012, 11:41 »
hey guys,

quick question, gonna be changing over breather pipes as cracked and crumbling this weekend, have noticed that everythings coated in oil n grease up top so was wondering, can i steam clean the top of my engine?

my mums got this hand hold, jet nozzled, steam spitting monster  that seems to clean everything bar non with 200C heat, what damages could i be looking at?

any help would be great   :nerd:

Do it the old fashioned way mate, engine degreaser and paint brush.

I wouldnt want to steam clean my engine to be honest.

Gunk and a brush or toothbrush for those hard to reach places where plaque/grime builds up

people jet washing engines need lining up and shooting  :lipsrsealed:

ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

True story while we are on the subject:-

Someone I know owns a ford galaxy and he had removed all the seats bar the front ones to move a load of stuff from a house and the carpet was an absolute mess-
he took it to a valeter and said look mate just soak the carpet and get it as clean as you can for me - he picked it up in the afternoon and drove home, called me in the morning, Dave can you come and look at my car its not working, 'in what way' I said, 'in every way' he said.

Got round and said right what have you done in the last 24 hours to it, 'well I moved all the stuff we spoke about' and then took the car to a valeter' so I touched the carpet and I could oush my finger into it and water was pooling around where my finger is.

I said you do realise the ECU for these is under the floor under the passenger seat, removed the cover and the ECU was submerged in water  :lipsrsealed:

I laughed and said well for a start I'm going to need some tubing, he said whats that for, I said to syphon the gallons of water in this f*cking recess

^^ I sh1t you not this happened

can i steam clean the top of my engine?

If you removed it from the rest of the engine you could, just take the rocker off and do that with the steam cleaner
