Cam Belt and temp gauge question
« on: 09 July 2012, 21:55 »
Hey guys, just picked up my 1.6 mk4 and it has no receipt for a cam belt change and having had a quick look under the bonnet the belt doesn't really look in great condition probably due to the fact it was stood doing nothing from November till now as it's had no MOT (previous owner did this).

How much will a garage charge to do this?

and I noticed it took nearly 20miles to get the car up to 90c on a mixture of A roads and normal 30mph roads which compared to my MK3 I found very odd. I also noticed that the gauge went up and down but never higher than 90c. This isn't normal is it? What would you suggest?

Cheers

Cost me £358. Should have cost only 289 but the garage didn't know until my car was in pieces that I had a hydraulic tensioner which cost more

The 289 original quote was best around by almost 100quid. Shop around. But I say expect to pay about 300. Pretty average price I bet...
