gti 8v camshaft?

got an 8v gti and want to upgrade camshaft any suggestions? i know its been asked lots before just cant find right one.

What do you mean you cant find the right one?

I'm guessing he wants the best cam for standardish engine?
So what is best as just a cam upgrade with no other mods?
A wild cam won't work unless the head can breath, etc.

I ran a Kent GS23H which was a 285 degree cam and 11.53mm lift. It's jsut about the biggest cam you can fit without the lobe interfering with the head.

MPG dropped when booting it obviously, but when driving carefully it was about the same.

Idle was very lumpy, sounded awesome.

138hp from the 8v, that was with airbox modifications, pipercross panel filter and cat back exhaust.

Was the 'lumpy' idle tolerable for a daily and is it a straight swap?

It drive just as well on the road, no kangarooing. You get used to it quickly, and within a few miles you pull away smoothly and without kangarooing. And yes, straight swap.

Would you recommend a full head rebuild at the same time?

If you don't need it, then no. New tappets are a good shout though, as the old ones will be worn to the old cam, and as soon as you chuck a higher lift cam on they can give up soon.
