I like my mk3 very much and greatly admire many other peoples mk3 but i'm struggling to figure out how they could make any real money out of the project and which mk3 variant they might choose, none are what you'd call rare or special so am suprised they didn't go for a mk2 G60/rallye or even something like a down at heal mk4 r32, don't shoot me down in flames for this because i would defend the mk3 as a proper GTi all day long but i do think there are more worthy members of the golf GTi lineage.

i dont know what people base the "mk3 isn't a gti" arguement on, the slowest gti brand ever is the mk4, and there probly find one for £300 spend £200-£300 maybe and sell it for a good price

They've been playing about with £10000 plus motors recently this is why i'm suprised they would look at mk3's unless they have begun to lose the target audience and are going back to more affordable stuff.

They also havent had the "here is a mint one" format for years. hope it goes ahead though and theres easily a few hundred quid in a good 16v or a vr if they get one for sub £500.

Just thinking the same, even a tidy mk3 is what a £1500 tops these days maybe a little more, so not going to be big profit.
