bummer......
« on: 17 June 2005, 14:58 »
got up early, fitted mk3 rear calipers to the mk2, bled em out etc.. set up handbrake, no probs.. new rad fan delivered, so i thought id fit it, no probs... came to start the old girl and she was a bit lumpy/misfiring... went after a min or 2... any wyas i turns it off to put me rear wheels etc back on ready to take to mot station...... would it fook as like start!!!!

im getting sparks at all the plugs, fuel, cambelt/timing ok...... i cant see why the fecking thing wont fire up!! the only thing i can see that looks suspect is the plastic coating around the 'knock sensor' is broken and half missing it looks a bit manky....

even though i was getting a spark i thought id check rotor arm etc... rotor arm ok, but the carbon brush in the centre of the cap felt to bits as removed  the cap

so to say im peeesed off is an understate ment..... i knew i should have bought an older k jet model again.... digipants.......

so tomorrow i have to buy a new cap, im gonna shell for leads/rotor arm/plugs also, and then theres this sensor... bet thats a vw only job.....

not happy

well, afaik, the knock sensor controls the ignition or summat? so with a knackered one, the motor will almost die, then sort of jump into life all at once (which is what me raddo done)

mine was all taped up with electrical tape  so if yours is fooked, it could be the answer??

 :undecided:

either way, i rekon youll need to lash the cash n replace it like.....

Gaz

i had a simlier problem once on my digifant and it turned out to be the coil.............. i had sparks at me plugs but they just wont strong enough to get the thing going. mine was starting and then just died on me. must of blown the coil. just a thought if the plugs, cap and arm dont work.

reet further developements today but still no joys as such......, fitted new dizzy cap/leads/plugs.... still the mo fo'in same

thought it would be but you allways have a thought that the easist things will work lol!!, any how, had the chavriolet alongside jumpin/chargin the battery and tried a few other things, all plugs out on leads... sparks ahhooyy, and fuel air chuffin out the cylinders.... thisis what confuses me, ive got both the bits needed to get the fooker to run!!.. any how, removed knock sensor and un plugged it, let the escort charge the old girl up for 20 mins then gave it a turn over... after 5-8 secs of cranking there was a slight splutter.. and at one point i got it to tick over on 1/2 cylinders for 3 seconds, pressing the throttle dosnt do feck all, if you plug the knock sensore in it does feck all, im totally cheesed so spent the rest of the day buffing the chavriolet up and shes now up for sale as ive removed the 'B16GGY' plate.... hope she sells soon and i hope i can get this fooker to run!!

IF THERES ANY BODY IN THE LINCS ARE WITH AN 8V DIGIFANT GTI, let me know, cause id like to have a look/try your knock sensor before splashing out £40 on one if i dont need one!!! could be the ecu also at fault..... i much prefer 8/16v cars with the k jet system... in fact i think i love them...

lol

Gaz, now getting pi55ed as sunburnt like mad and still annoyed cant get the sl@g running!!

Gaz did you remove the radiator when you change the fan.

i removed my rad hoses and the two sensors ontop of the water flange once. refitted the wires back on the wrong sensor and it didnt fire up.  :lipsrsealed:

digipants are delicate engines mate. had mine at a garage for 3 weeks and it just fired up one day

my nock sensor was burnt to a crisp and it still worked fine. You have to torque them up or they dont work properly i think

Just a note regarding knock sensor ...When fitting them I believe that there is a specified torque setting for the bolt which if I remember correctly is quite critical to the sensors operation :undecided: (although I can't remember what it is) :undecided:

ill keep u updated as to how much it drains my pocket

no matter what its gotta be 100% reliable (as my other vw's have been, and this one till friday!!), as i need it for work, gonna do leeds in the mk4 now a deffo, but i need this running sweet as for bugjam and gti fest!!!
