Wiper help ggggrrrr
« on: 06 July 2012, 11:11 »
Ok my bloody wipers are doing my head in.
No matter what setting I put them on they just do normal speed even intermittent goes normal speed and when I turn them off I have to go one up the click down otherwise the they don't turn off. Also when they do go off they stop where ever they are at the time on the screen. I have just changed the stalk and now also changed the relay. But still doing it.

Any ideas?

Motor? I know dodgy motors can get them stuck on but not sure about this  :undecided:

I had this on our last mk3, did my head in for months. Suddenly realised the relay was in the wrong port (not by me I hasten to add). Try moving the relay (I think) to the spare socket either to the left or the right of where it is now. Should work properly then.

Hope it helps!

Could be relay or maybe the stalk.

to the right is a relay with 36 on it and to the left the relay does not fit.

and len i have just changed both

i have been routing around and found 2 black wires that seem to have been spliced into a couple of wires coming from the wiper stalk wiring.

took a couple of pics. what could these wires be? alarm? if so why would alarm be spliced into wipers? i have a good clifford alarm on the car.

Try a different position - the relay fits into two sockets but i can't remember which one (just thought it might be left or right - could be up or down).

there is no other socket that the relay will fit in mate.

this is what im looking at. relay 99 is the wipers. and none of the other sockets have the same plug order on them

just done a google images search on it and all the pics are the same a mine with the relays where mine is.

Strange, worked on our last one. I had tried new relays, changed the stalk, the wiper motor and the last sudden thought was to see if the relay worked elsewhere. Try pulling them all and seeing what works where, you never know. Process of elimination. (our old one was a 94 'M' reg so same age as yours I think)

the thing is if i remove the relay the wipers come on but only in one position. if i put the relay in they come on in all positions but just dont work propply. dont really want to start pulling them all out as i will forget what goes where and dont want to bugger anything up.
so the relay does effect the wipers in that slot just they dont work probbly.

could it not be them spliced in wires i pictured? not sure what they are or why they are there.

You have the exact scenario I had with the exception that ours only worked on fast. No normal or intermittent and they wouldn't park in the flat position unless you switched it off quick enough.

Take a photo of the relays as they are now as a reference point and then put the wiper relay in to sockets that will fit and try it one by one. Should be easy enough to do. Is it a new relay?
