the problem
« on: 16 June 2005, 21:14 »
as some of you may know i'm having a cold start problem, however i also have experienced that after running for a while (long trips) my car would suddenly lose power totally and wouldnt go over 60.  After a short rest it would be ok for another twenty miles.  I replaced the battery and it seems to have solved the problem.  The next problem that im having is when i gun it and change gear the car will immediately jump to the redline evreytime i change up.  Its a nightmare.  What i want to know is, A - what the hell is wrong with my 16 valver and B- are these problems all related in some way and C if so what is causing the problem?  Cheers
On a brighter note I'm celebrating my 16v getting another 12 months on the road today Yipppeeee

on start up, when it finally does start up.....it idles poorly but after a few minutes it idles fine.  Once it is warmed up it idles fine all day.  I have cleaned the isv and replaced it with another one that has been known to be in working order and it hasn't made any difference unfortunately

have you tryed lubricating your throttle cable and throtttle lever/switch might be sticking on full throttle and then loosening up which would take it to redline, must be throttle related because it wouldn't get near redline if the throttle was shut? try also taking your airbox to bits and the pipes and bits n pieces give them a fettle it could be that there is a blockage or maybe it's just a v dub thing! LOL I feel your pain chasing the impossible to find problems with ur valver! check ur dissy and coil and then check the vaccuum system for leaks too as this can apparently cause cold start problems. Good luck and well done on another year!

cheers mate, taken the airbox to bits and carb cleaned everything, the only thing left to do is to take off the thtrottle housing and give that a damn good clean.  Looks like there is a gasket in there, if it needs replacing...what should i ask for at the loocal  parts spot?  Cheers for advice changed leads and coil,  dizzy looks alright just contemplating changing plugs again as they looked different to the ones that i took out.  i.e. the ones i took out had 4 prongs and these arte only singular
