To bypass - at the bulk head in the engine there are two pipes going into the car next to each other, take these off and put a copper pipe between them, job done!

That oil reading is fine mate, I wouldn't worry about that.  Best thing to do it take the seats out and remove the carpet. This weekend looks good for that, let em dry out properly in the sun, it's all the insulation that takes ages.

While all that's out get working on the Matrix...

Don't put anything back till you're happy the leak has gone.

If your still interested in bypassing the matrix here are couple of picts of the 2 pipes you will need to join together. Best bet would be a U bend of copper pipe.

Its the 2 pipes together with jubalee clips on.

Yep bypassing is a piece of p!ss to do, the matrix in my gf's driver failed on saturday. Driving along the M11 pulled off on a slip road when we stopped what I thought was smoke started billowing out of the dash!!! Got her to pull over quick and switch car off, popped bonnet and the 'smoke' was now coming out under the bonnet aswell. Quickly grabbed screwdriver out of the boot and frantically started stripping the dash down expecting something to go up in flames any second. Got as far as removing the heater fan and noticed it was wet and everything finally clicked!!! Went back for another sniff of the 'smoke' and discovered it was steam. Quick trip to B&Q for some 20mm copper pipe and a hacksaw, bit of emergency plumbing and we were back on our way!

Looks like I'll be fitting a new matrix before the winter!!!

You got any pics of your dad's split ?
