Golf gt tdi 110 cambelt snap

Hi. Just wondering if anybody could offer some advice. Im looking at buying a 51 plate golf gt tdi 110. Only thing putting me off is about a year n half ago the cambelt was replaced and about 2k later it failed causing engine timing to be out etc.. The car has been fixed and now seems mechanically fine but Im abit concerned about any long term problems this may of caused?  Thanks, Eleanor

Steer clear of it. It could have done all sorts of damage when it snapped. Would have costs thousands to put right I'd imagine...

depends really. i have a 110, the cambelt tensioner decided to let go so all the tension was lost. the only problem caused was the fuel pump timing went so the car wouldnt run.i re timed it, new belt and tensioner on and happy days. it now runs sweet with no problems. all depends on what damage was caused. but even then id personally say if any major damage was caused it woud have become apparent straight away

i had same problem. Some muppet a "mechanic" put the timing belt on my car and it was out by a quater, some valves where damaged (not sure how many) got the same head rebuilt and new valves and stems. Over a year and still running good.
Unless diesels are totaly diffrent when it comes to timing letting go?n
