What Mk4 to buy
« on: 16 June 2005, 16:38 »
Hi Folks,

After being away from VW's for over a year I'm gonna get meself a Mk4, I've seen lots of varients and i'm probably gonna open a can of worms, but whats the best one to get?

I've probably got about 7/8k to spend, I was looking at maybe the 1.8T or an anniversary or the V5 depening if i can find one....

What your thoughts....

Cheers.

I brought a 1.8T 18 months ago and sold it within 6 months as i wasn't happy with the performance.
I could of spent money on it and chipped it up and few other mods but just didn't have the money.
I then went out and brought a  MK3 VR6 which don't have the comfort ride but out performs it on the power side which the 1.8T just didn't have.
If i brought a Mk4 again id go for the GT TDI which i had a go at once and it left the 1.8 T standing.
Or get a VR6 ;)

I'd go for the 4 motion or 1.8T Anni if I bought another Mk4 - Not so keen on the diesels myself as you run out of revs a bit early.

My 1.8 20v NA is not exactly rapid. 0-60 in just over 9s, and 125bhp... in terms of performance, I think the only GTIs it beats are the Mk3 8v, and the Mk4 2.0 8v

If i got another mk4 i'd get a R32 iam affraid.. i am quite happy with my 2.0 even if it is the slowest gti, but i do feel mine is more nippy than the other 2.0's that i have driven.. and also, i washed and polished it this morning and a young boy and the postman said "wow you've got a nice car" No one has ever said that to me before!! so i was quite happy lol
