ED 30 Diverter Valve Advise
« on: 02 July 2012, 20:33 »
I have an '08 ED30 with a revision C valve.

The car is mildly tuned - panel filter, exhaust. I will be going up to a proper filter and turbo back exhaust soon and NO further than a stage 1 tune.

People keep mentioning you need revision D or revision G diverter valve, some swear by the Forge one.

I have not seen anything from anyone with a forge diverter valve - anyone here had any experience?

My advice would be to go with a OEM G revision valve which is the diaphragm valve - full part number is 06F 145 710 G.

I had the OEM piston valve (710D) fitted previously but it didn't hold the boost any where near as well on my Stg 1 S3.

Thanks very much. I guess this does the job for a fraction of the forge price?

Exactly! The diaphragm has been known to split on cars with high / agressive boost i.e. REVO, but I've had them on 2 cars running 1.3Bar without any issues.

As for feedback with the Forge one I've had one on my car (stage 1 remap, intake, full turbo back exhaust) for the last 3 years and its been fine. No problems at all with it.

The latest VW ones do the job just as well as VW modified the way it works.

Glad to see VW modified the existing DV.

Fitted a Forge DV after diagnosing a split diaphragm in the oem DV, that showed up as a boost pressure failure fault code. I have to say that having seen the oem part after extraction, I was surprised to say the least, that the flimsy little green diaphragm had lasted as long, even with standard bhp. It looked like a torn condom, uh oh! It definitely warranted redesign by VW, put it that way.

Needless to say once the Forge DV was fitted, the difference was incredible. To be honest I was embarrassed that I hadn't naturally felt the lack of boost prior to the diagnostics. Mainly, I presume, because the car was still quick with the other mods in place. Maybe it has something to do also with Forge being marginally uprated in terms of performance? It certainly was of the highest quality, it looked bombproof and I love shiny things  :embarassed:

Awesome Gti in Manchester. They're a fab company. Bit useless on the logistics front, but technically pretty good and they stock loads of gear.

The only shame with this part, is that it's not on display in the engine bay, so you can't showcase it's beauty! Don't let that put you off though

Inventory  - Investigation of low boost failure and high end boost dropping off, at customers request.

Work list - Fault codes present for turbo pressure. Low and erratic. Removal of valve found split diaphragm. Sourced uprated, Forge pressure valve. Fitted and system pressure adjusted. Fault codes cleared and performance road test completed. Rechecked management system. No fault codes present.

My garage charged me £90 for the labour and the part was £166.14. With VAT I paid £307.37 in full

Well worth it!
