Installing new coilovers
« on: 02 July 2012, 19:15 »
Im due to receive and fit my new coilovers this week.  I was wondering should i change my top mounts or would it be ok using my current standard ones. Also is there anything else i should change/upgrade anything else when i install them?

Cheers

buy mk3 front top mounts (not vr6). Will outlast mk2/g60 mounts with harsh coilies.
A fresh set of rear mounts wont hurt.

I would also poly bush the rear axel while everything is off.

You just need the mk3 top rubber mount, the special securing nut and the bearing.

After that get to a specialist that can adjust camber and tracking.

Not sure about the mk3 stuff but you could try your dealership. GSF or Europarts.

GSF do them. I put them on my mk2 when fitting coilovers.

Another thing i did was to by a protective spray for the upper thread and I wrapped the lower thread with gaffer tape.

This stops thread rusting and not letting you adjust them anymore.

Mk3 upgrade is a good one, i got all my bits off ebay, febi bilstein rear mounts and lemforde front ones (make the oem dealer mounts apparently) then you just need the mk3 threaded bush for the front shocks, couple of quid from vw.

The rear axel bushes might end up a bigger job so unless you have the tools then start it. (you need a press or brutal tools) You might end up busting a brake line and then have to replace the lot.
The rest of the above are fine. Just got to vw and order 2 of these. They replace the mk2 special colar

Mk3 mounts take a while to settle but a year in and they have outlast my G60 mounts so all good.

Track rod ends and new ball joints if you want. Just make sure you get the camber alignment done or it will handle like a dog and chew through tyres!

Ill leave the rear bushes then.

Ok, thats great.

apologies, if this sounds daft but, does the securing nut come with the mounts?
