heating. climatronic
« on: 01 July 2012, 20:44 »
hi all. i need some help

i have read the vw handbook but the climotronic confuses me.

when it select it to low heat its freezing. does that mean i have air con. when its on high its boiling

sometimes when i set it to off it carries on pumping out either heat or cold. depending on what it was set to before it was turned off.

its not fierce but its there. does that mean the compressor is still running. sometimes it doesnt do it.

in the book it says its best to run it on auto at 22c.

even though the air temp was 18c the air coming out was cold. surely if its set higher it should be warmer.

also it says if you set it to econ. the compressor should go off but i still get warm or cold air

why didnt they just fit a air con button? at what degree does the air con kick in.

im only asking as i dont want to waste fuel with it running. please help i wish it was just 3 switches. so much easier

Auto tries to keep the temperature in the car at the set degrees e.g. 22c and controls the fan speed

Econ is Economy mode so no air con.

If you press the auto or fan speed buttons when its in auto the panel goes blank. This is air con mode. You manually choose the temp and fan speed.

Econ mode is best for mpg

The same way older cars without air con can have cold or hot air.

When you say off are you turning the fans all the way off and the panel is showing 'off'? If you are there should be no air at all coming through the vents

yes sometimes i get the heat or cold coming through when its off. so if i turn it to econ the air cons not working?

its as cold as when its normally on low to be honest. im thinking a dodgy dash now tbh.

I have had this problem, everything is off but when i hit a Ton down the A12 hot or cold air still comes through the vents depending on the last setting. Took to VW and they said it could be the actuator arms in the units for the climatronics. doesnt look like it uses up fuel according to the VW tech and i havent actually seen any change in fuel consumption, VW did say it would be over a couple hundred on labour alone to get it sorted, best thing probs is to deal with it or take it to a backstreet job lot, a guy qouted me full removal and refurb for close to £300 inc vat

does anyone know how to set it so when its on econ and i put the front screen heater on it stays in econ mode. i have sort of got to grips with it but the front screen is a problem. plus the fact when it comes off econ you feel the power drop for a second lol kind of weird on the motorway

you have to press econ again. The reason it switches to air con mode when demising the windows is the air con clears the windows quicker than just hot air.

Thats normal, its the aircon pump engaging. Its driven off the crankshaft so saps a little power from the engine to drive the pump.
