Hi guys

i am about to pick my GTI from my local dealer, it had its mechatronic changed.  I know that is covered by warranty.  What i wanted to know is, do/can dealers charge labor for fixings that take place within warranty?

Not usually. If it's full manufacturers warranty then no, if it's a VW approved used car then the warranty will be limited to certain components (or more accurately will exclude certain components) then there may be charges under that. Also, certain consumables will not be covered outside of the manufacturers warranty, like oils and fluids perhaps.

Depends on the warranty.

In short no, if it's covered by the warranty then there will be no charge.

well it's a full manufacturers warranty on a new car.  They are changing the machatronic, i had the DSG service something like 5k miles ago so was I've asked them to take the oil and use it.  I'd not expect them to charge me labor, since they are fixing the car within warranty right?

Under full manufacturers warranty, VW will pick up the full tab.

Labour should only be charged if it is parts warranty.

what do you mean 'parts warranty'?  Does mechatronic count as part?

If your car is under warranty then you should pay no labour however if you have a new part recently fitted and it fails that can be classed as parts warranty and they do / should charge labour.

oh, right, then I guess i pay no labour since the car is under warranty and the mechatronic which failed is the one that came with the car  still feeling sick about the whole thing though... why, oh, why break????
