auto to manual swap
« on: 30 June 2012, 12:39 »
I am looking at swapping my auto to a manual gearbox. I have been told that all that needs doing is to change the flywheel to a manual an the manual box will go straight onto the auto engine as they are the same. I have a manual shell that I will be dropping the lump into. Just unsure what wwork will be need to do. Its a 2ltr 8v auto engine and a 8v gti gearbox. Any help would be great

he says he has a manual shell though. So if he's got a 2.0 gti car and blown the motor and replacing with a auto engine it will be simple as long as the engine are the same code.

I have got a manual but the engine has gone. And I have got an auto that I was gna use the engine from and put in the manual shell. I just need to know if I can use an automatic engine and put a manual gearbox on it. A mechanic reckons it just needs the flywheel changing from the auto to the manual one before fitting the manual gearbox. But this seems to easy to me so was hoping for someone to shed some light on the matter

I think he means he's got a manual 8v with a blown engine and a spare engine with an autobox on it and wants to know if you can replace the autobox with the manual box off his old engine...right?

Dead easy to change over but fit a new clutch whilst it is all apart.
