I was told by a MK2 "specialist" body shop that when a door started dropping there was feck all you can do - Based on the basic assumption that both body and door hinges were intact and not moving...

So are you saying that you can knock out the door hinge pin on the door and replace it?

Unbolt door, place carefully on some sort of table/tressel... Then using a heavy drift and hammer, knock the lower pin, in an upwards direction, and the upper pin in a downwards direction, then replace with these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLF-MK1-GTI-MK2-CABRIO-CADDY-DOOR-HINGE-PINS-GENUINE-/251012671218?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a718566f2#ht_1480wt_960
Sorted!

No worries, we aim to please

Sometimes... the pin can be difficult to remove, this is usually because the hinge gets hung up on the worn pin, try rotating the hinge into different angles to bypass the worn section, and use lots of WD40

These pins/hinges can also be converted to "Roll pin" type if the OE ones are not available, iirc they are 8mm and are a straight swap for the original item...

Are those pins what you can see on the door frame? My door seems to be wobbling from where the bottom strut attaches (inside) the door.
