MOT - She faild today, Quick query
« on: 29 June 2012, 18:02 »
Hay guys

Quick question.

She fail today on bold tyre rite. So iv took her home to put
My spare on tht I had down the garden. "brand new"

Matey said it has to be the same size. My size of my tyre tht is illegal is
205/55 R16 91W

My spare wheel is
205/55 R16 91V

What's the score as the difference is 91W & 91V, if I put the spare wheel "91V" will it fail due to tht last number&letter?

Thanks.

Tyres/wheels have to be the same across the axle so front tyres both being the same size and same for rear. Your spare will be fine for the MOT

Stick it on for the MOT, get a new front tyre and put the spare back in the boot!

The difference between the 'W' & the 'V' is the speed rating - the 'W' is a higher speed rating. Potentially the difference in tyre tread patterns & speed ratings could impact how the car handles or brakes, especially when on the limit.

I never take chances on tyres - they are the only contact between the car & the road & it amazes me the amount of people that will drive on defective / cheap / dangerous tyres & risk the lives of other road users.

It's your conscience at the end of the day...
