Hi folks, i'm new on here, so go easy!

Had my edition 30 for a month now with 60k miles on the clock (2007) bought from a VW Main dealer. They changed the cambelt just as I bought it but did not change the water pump if this perhaps has anything to do with the issue potentially.

So the noise in the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuucnRCp2g8&feature=plcp has been on and off for the past 2 weeks there is no particular pattern to when it occurs:

* it happens at any moving speeds and in any gear and when the vehicle is in idle.
* whether the vehicle is in drive, in gear, out of gear, whether or not the clutch is depressed.
* On the motorway 'cruising' or round town.
* the noise 'appears' to come from under the bonnet (front left sort of area so it sounds!). it is not tyre squeal as the VW tech asked me!
* The noise comes when the car is warmed up, i.e. not from a cold start.

I had the car in for it's MOT the other day and they could not find it. To me it sounds like a loose belt or rollers if that makes sense.

Any help appreciated!

If it was a bearing, I'd expect to hear it all the time.

Sounds like the aux belt is slipping.

Does it happen with the climatronic system off?

Most have the water pump and roller changed at the same time as the cambelt as they can let go after the belt is changed.

Hi thanks for the replies so far.

it's definately not a stone and it happens whether the climatic control is on or off. It's down at the VW dealer now (under warranty!) so fingers crossed they can identify it and sort it out as it's annoying me!

Well after ten days at VW it's finally sorted. It had the cambelt, water pump and rollers changed and this did not sort the problem. In the end it was the Rocker Cover and this has resolved the issue. All done under warranty thankfully!
