Knocking noise
« on: 27 June 2012, 22:48 »
Hi guys. Recently my car has been making a strange knocking noise, im pretty sure its coming from the drivers side, sounding quite similar to a cv joint.

I changed this and the noise is still there.

Its like a grinding knocking noise, when i pull away slowly and mainly when i turn right.

Doesnt make a noise when at a standstill.

Its also accompanied by many other 'creaks' when going over speedbumps and pretty much general driving.

I dont want to be changing everything but i think it may be a case of getting lucky, any help would be great!

Thanks

Wheel bearing, jack the car up and see if you have any play.

will do wayne. had a read through some threads, strut top bearing seems to be a popular fix. But i always thought they'd make a noise when turning the wheel stationary?

i have the same noise when turning right. if you close all the doors and turn the steering left to right slowly and not all the way do you get it then when stationary, also is the engine running when you have tried it stationary? and also i have tried listening outside the car next to the wheel and under but cannot hear mine? but i have just recieved my new top mounts and bearings which is what i hope it is....

Wishbones?
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

look at your driveshaft see if there's a ring around it.
