Spraying my colour concept
« on: 27 June 2012, 21:34 »
Hey was looking for tips and any advice for spray painting.
I have recently started repairing some minor surface rust and have sucessfully filled and primed my passenger side of car. Can anyone share some light on the next stages for me to get this looking sweet again, have got correct paint colour and laquer just require some more prep techniques ect

Thanks will get pictures up soon

In all honesty, leave painting to a proper paintshop for big areas imho

Wet and dry flat your primer ,use a block on the flat areas ,panel wipe the areas for paint ,mask up,panel wipe again,50/50 paint to thinners, first colour coat very light coverage(tack coat) will help the next coat adhere and not run as easy, build the colour coats up slowly with light coats give 5 mins between coats ,when you have an even and full colour give it some time to flash off 30 mins, then get the laquer on (wet on wet)this technique makes the laquer grab on to the paint better as the paint is fully open, light coat again, give it 10 mins, then get brave with a wet coat, lots of light will help you see patchy areas using the reflection off the light ,2 wet coats is normally enough ,im not a pro but this is how i do it,it works for me,hope it helps

For solid colours like yours use 2k paint no need for laquer coat
