Edition 30 engine any known faults?

Thinking of moving to an edition 35 and as its the same engine iirc as the edition 30.
 Has  has there been any common known issues with it as its been out quite a number of years now and so they should have shown themselfs by now. If i do move to one its quite a financial step so the car will be with me for 10 years or so, so known its engine weeknesses now would be benificial in making the decision.

I seriously wouldnt bother.... unless of course you plan on remapping. The K04 has noticable lag over the k03 and doesnt feel anywhere near as lively as the std gti. The k04's are a great platform for modding, as Im sure you know, but in std form they really offer nothing major.

I would also imagine the consumption would be a major factor. In my mk6 I got a nice 34mpg average with blasting around where possible (remapped). With my std ED30 I am looking around the 30mpg mark.

... and I must add that most my miles are now done during quiet times on the road... but not quiet enough to blast about as I did in the GTI. I would say you are easily looking at 6mpg difference, and quite a financial increase for a run out car.

As for your inital question.. the engine is generally considered much stronger than required and has know know problems itself. After all it a detuned S3 engine and still used in the Golf R running 270bhp as std.

Just buy the Edition 30 . The ED35 is not a limited edition and to pay all that money for it when it is no different to the ED30 is madness . If you had the money sitting in a bank account it would be madness ,  to borrow money to buy it would be ********* . There isn't a word to describe how stupid this would be.

Agreed, bank the dosh, buy a high spec spec DSG ed30. why spend another 15k for what you've already got in the mk6. It's the same car , different turbo and different wheels.

At least with an older car, you know it's not gonna rust after 6 months like your 6 did

Mine never rusted as protected from day one but a used edition 30 on the other hand..
Each to their own but i much prefer the look and interior of the 6 over the 5 and if the Edition 30 is a proven engine with by now should be known weeknesses(what i wanted to know what they were) then i would keep the ed35 10 years+ anyway. Ive had the mk1 21+ years for example.

I thought the plan was you were keeping your current 6 for 10 years?

sounds like you have a itch to spend on a new car 

personally , I'd buy a year old R instead of a 35. Better looking and ticks every box

I would agree... the R is so much more than the 35.

I wouldnt expect any mk6 to last 10years

Wait two months for the mk7.  It's a genuine new car, not just a rehash like the mk6.

If your planning on keeping the next car you purchase for 10 years then I would hang on for a mk7.
