Air Filter
« on: 26 June 2012, 22:34 »
Hey guys,

Getting my first golf soon and the first thing I'll want to mod on it is the air filter, unless you recommend something else first. Basicly the point is, baby steps.
I'm new to this, and my budget isn't going to be huge (£100 a month maybe) but I'd like to do some nice things to my car. ECU chip, lower it a bit, change the front and rear lights, but yeah right now the first thing is to put an air filter on it, or an new air intake....I don't know. Anyone want to point me in the right direction? Maybe some Tutorials, good brands to look at, some review websites?

Thanks in advance

most mods to support a remap can be done for under the 100quid mark (if you shop around)
silicone tip
panel/cone filter (read the many debates as to which is better and make your own decision)
forge 007p DV (008 is still just above £100 but not by much so im sure you can make an exeption)
boost gauge/pod

the only think you might have to do a bit of saving for is an exhaust system and the map itself.

Im doing it like you, a little bit each month, no point rushing it eh.

Technically you don't need anything for a re-map, it's just common sense to do so. I'd probably say:

Forge 007p diverter valve
Pipercross panel filter
Silicone TIP - Not essential but nice to have
3" turbo back exhaust with sports cat

You can always map your car and start adding the bits. After the exhaust I'd probably want it mapping again though.

Always declare mods, you stand to lose a lot if you don't.

That's what I thought.

I think I might start saving first then ;) I've got 6 points on my licence from taking my mums car out as a kid but when I turn 21 (early next year) all points will be gone and cleared from my licence and I'll get the insurance drop from being 21 (so I've been told). Then I'll can get my hands dirty and by car purring :P

declare mods, if you go with the right insurer, mods wont sting you too much
