engine plastics how to clean up?

hi guys

so i'm stripping parts off my vr6 and i'm trying to clean the engine plastics up and used a few things to try get them clean and looking shinny and new again.

i haven't got any pics of the parts ive removed but the plastics have faded and well it generally looks pants also it looks like in parts the dirt is set into the plastic and looks white and patchy in places.

ive used so far

washing up liquid (yeh i know) didnt touch it
white spirit (didnt touch it)
wet and dry (very fine) still didnt do anything.

anyone able to advise other than painting which i dont want to do as wanted it standard.

at work i use my non acidic wheel cleaner, its great stuff, take off all the dirt under the bonnet, then use either super rubber dressing or something called t-sheen for a clean but not so shiny look

Autoglym interior shampoo or baby wipes.

G101 or Britemax Grimeout will clean it all up a treat....with ease.

G101. This stuff is an awesome all purpose cleaner! Can also be used around the house...you won't regret buying it. Waxamomo are usually cheapest and have it in stock

Meguires super degreaser does the car and engine. Any left over can then be used as an instant weed killer

another shout for G101 here... you can use it in a stronger concentration for more contaminated plastics under the hood (but don't get that concentrated product on paintwork or shiny metal)

if you are able to remove the plastics it would be ideal... spray G101 on, agitate with a detail brush.. then if you have one pressure wash the product...

if you want a nice, natural finish then you can use AutoSmart Finish in a 1:1 dilution ratio

thanks for the response guys, sounds like g101 is good for the job then, yes all plastics are off the car will this give a permanent result? ive tried rubbing it down again with fine emery paper but doesn't seem to do anything,

erm aside g101 i was thinking of getting a plastic buffer attachment for my drill to try get a long lasting result anyone reckon this might do the job?

finish won't give a permanent result... in fact... due to the nature of the engine bay environment you would be hard pushed to find anything that will

G101 will clean, you will need to apply a dressing after that

emery paper will scratch and marr the plastic if you aren't careful... plastic will 'burn' very easily with a buffer (think about the low temperatures at which plastic melts)
