I was just told that the mecatronic unit on my GTI 6's DSG needs replacing after some quite strange behavior of late.  Has anyone had their mecatronic changed and if yes, was everything ok after???  I am a bit worried that messing with the gearbox will change the way the car used to behave before.  Also, following such a change, does the warrantee on the particular part count from scratch?

I had mine changed under warranty on my R32 - it drove a lot better afterwards

I don't think you have anything to worry about - and you'll probably get a fresh change of DSG oil too

If you do a search on Google images for this unit you will see how it fits into the gearbox.
Infact if you search on Google or it maybe in the maintenence.section on here there's a study program technical document on the dsg box.
as for the change I do know two mk5 owners who have suffered the failure both had the units replaced and one has over 80000 miles on the replacment unit now and the other not far behind.

I do understand how you feel as I think the turbos gone on mine    so its parked up waiting till I decide which dealer I feel I can trust to work on it  :undecided:

man, having trouble with such high-tech equipment is the sort of thing you wish you never have to experience.  I see quite a few people who've suffered similarly though, not a nive feeling having the car immobilized heh?

got the GTI back today, new mechatronic fitted.  So far so good, smooth as butter (not sure of the analogy but you get the point)
