Loved my 306. Didn't owe me a thing when I got rid of it and was fairly cheap for parts.
Check electrics are ok, windows sunroof etc.

A comon fault is water getting into the alarm housing which keeps setting it off at all hours. Check if its got the original or aftermarket one.
Easy fix anyway.

I get bored of my cars easy as they rinse fuel and feel slow after a while, so I'm hoping a D Turbo will be decent on fuel and have a bit of poke if the fuel pump and turbo have been wound slightly

My first car was a 1 year old Saxo VTR way back in 1999! Since then I've had about 5 other saxos.

Cheap to buy, cheap to run, easy to work on and cheap to fix when they do go wrong with an abundance of 2nd hand parts out there

Should be able to take your pick of quite a few up to around 100k for the budget.

Things to look out for: worn rear beams (camber on rear wheels), rust under boot floor and under ECU tray and battery tray under the bonnet, knackered seats that rock and usual wear and tear.

306 DTurbo and keep it.

Otherwise there is a Passat VR5 in the for sale section  :lipsrsealed:
Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

had a vtr for my first car, it lasted 5 months in my hands  brakes, driveshafts, tappets and power steering all kaput so sold to my neighbour, was looking at vtr's again but I'd want a mk2 and they're all usually ragged about by chavs with 2 exhausts on it
