Print big google map? possible?
« on: 24 June 2012, 15:46 »
hi guys, as some of you know i've just started working for myself and to drum up some business and get my name about i have had some flyers made up, so plan on posting them through people's doors in specific areas.

so, i am wanting to print out a map of each area i plan on covering with the flyers then highlighting the roads i've done.
sounds a bit anal but that way i can keep track on where i have covered so far.

only problem i'm having is i can't get a map printed big enough of each area to be able to have everything in it without having to print off the map in the shown area, then move the map left/right/up/down then printing it and taping it together with previous maps.

even if i have to print it out on a few different sheets of paper would be good, i just don't wanna do it over loads of pages like i'd have to at the moment.

just wondering if any of you could help me out with this dilemma if you follow what my problem is?

thanks for any help in advance

Probably cheaper and easier to go to your local tourist info centre and buy a local map they are usually about a quid. Usually about A1 size.

thanks mate, i did think of that but can't seem to find an actual tourist info place in my town? just an online version of local guides etc.

but i have found a website like google maps that lets you export the map as an image and u can scale it to size so you can let it include street names etc which is exactly what i was after

the site is http://www.openstreetmap.org

thanks for the help anyways

ordnance survey?

this might help...

although you can get specific town maps... http://www.nicolsonmaps-online.co.uk/acatalog/Philips_Street_Atlases__English_Titles.html - these have taken over from the particularly useful 'red books' which had very good and easy to view town street maps in them

you should be able to get these easily in WH Smiths or any local bookshop

  Brilliant!

You know if you write to Google they'll post search results out to you, right?

In seriousness you can actually annote Google maps, so drop a pin on each road as you work along - means you have your notes in front of you on your phone, which might be handy.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

We also use a distribution company which sends us maps highlighting all the roads they have covered in the day. The have some tracking software on each distributers phone, this is then uploaded to a map route on google, with the receive the link via email.

Very handy for keeping and eye on routes covered... and also ensuring distribution is taking place.
