Different types of ignition coil's for 8V GTI, Have i been given the wrong part?

Hi, i am new to this forum and would like help about different types of coil's.

My old ignition coil pack gave in 3 weeks ago, so i bought one from a local motor factor shop, The new coil i purchased only lasted me 2 week, before it started giving me problems, It would spark when engine is cold, but would not spark when engine became hot, so i would have to tap the igntion coil with a spanner for it to spark,

Anyway i went back to the shop, and they happily replaced it with a new one, So after inspecting the new coil, i realised that it had no part number's stamped on it, which is a sign of it being a proper copy part, so i got the numbers of the box and began searching on google,

I now know that the coil pack they gave me is listed for a MK3 1.8 and not a 2.0 GTI, and it also say that its 66KW, is that telling that the max power for coil pack is (66 Kilo Watt).

Also i have managed to source that the GOLF GTI 16V, uses a coil which has 110KW, which is more powerful than the 66KW.

I want to know now if i have been given the wrong part altogether, and if the 8V and 16V use the same power coil?.

Please shed some light on this, i am confused. Thanks

The coil certainly does not have 66 or 110kW - that's the engine output.
Most 4 cylinder VWs from the mid 90s use the same coil. There was a design change at some point but they are all very much interchangeable, so I am sure that one that says it's for a 1.8 90PS also fits a 2.0 115PS or even the 150PS 2.0 16V.

does anyone know how much a ignition coil will cost from VW dealers, as i'm thinking of buying from the dealers?, and return this copy one back to the shop
