Golf mk4 1.4 running problem

Hi guys i have a intermittat problem with my golf and suddenly the check light comes on the dash then the epc light follows and sometimes oil light as well the epc light sometimes goes off but check light stays on until scan and clear fault. but when epc light is on it goes into limp mode. when scanned and cleared it may be fine for months but then comes back any ideas? cheers josh

What fault code does it bring up would be a good indication?

Find out the fault code numerous things can bring up the EML.
