please help with bad knocking noise.
« on: 20 June 2012, 19:50 »
Hi all, my 2002 gt tdi has a very bad but also random knocking noise fro the what sounds like the oaf. It sometimes happens and sometimes deosnt. Have replaced the drop links, rear wishbone bushes. 2 different garages have had on ramp and checked and can't find any faults. Only worn item is inner anti roll bar bushes but can't see them making this badder noise. Is only when doing lower speeds and not under acceration. Is very strange tbh. But is extremely annoying. As said though it sometimes deosnt do it but does most of the time. What the help could it be. Please help :(

Ok guys thanks, I did have a quick go the other week at changing then but culdnt get the clamp out, removed bolts but no give what so ever. I've got a set off euro car parts. Any one considered using poly bushes? Also been told that gt tdi goofs have a habbit of actually breaking the actual anti roll bar sometimes

Well spoke to a friend at vs dealer near me and he has informed me that there is a common problem appearing on some mk4 golfs, basically the inner bearing on the front hubs have a tendacy to spin in the actual hub which over times wears the hub and allows the bearing to rattle round. This would explain why my knocking deosnt occur under acceration etc. Just thourght I'd give people the heads up ok this incase anyone else has the problem.
