£1400 for coilovers on a mk4 barge golf is a joke the chassis is rubbish, wasted cash if you ask me.

Chassis isn't to bad, you have ARB's as stock on the front, can use rear ARB to stiffen it up a bit more and even cheap coilovers improve the stock setup so much from body roll and handling response. Also the fact that suspension usually wears out a significant amount in 60k and with cars over a decade old the handling will have deteriorated a bit. Just look at how a cheap set of FK-AK or Joms change the entire charecter of the car.

However I do think you should email VW and say "what where they thinking using steel, why don't the mk4 have a carbon fibre monocoque" and who knows they may make you a mk4 with a carbon fibre shell to solve your awful problem you are experiencing?

ask anyone... the mk4 chassis is poo and £1400 suspension wouldn't improve it, they'd properly do a little better than the £150 JOM's.

how many mk4 race car have you ever seen really?

Plenty of track toys, you are asking a lot from a decade old car which is just a sporty hatch back, not a rally car or a supercar. Again look at its brother the LCR all that is, is an uprated setup in the suspension department and that handles very different.

It's slow and handling doesn't compare to something like the mk2 Leon or s3, but like I said its an old car. But compare the mk4 to the other cars of its time from shape to interior to say a T reg mk4 fiesta, mk2 punto, the astra all in the time the mk4 came out. It was quite modern in comparison and if not a lot better, just jump into any most manufacturers T reg car and then jump back into the mk4.

Yep, even R reg ones are about which is 97, it was a huge jump forward when you compare its to even vw's mk4 polo which was still in production at that time and that was awful
