When you've parked your car in an unlit gravel carpark and it's been pissin it down, they are definately not a gimmick!

I agree, the lux pack is a must and really cheap as an option. Folding mirrors have saved many a potential smashed mirror as I drive on some very narrow roads plus the puddle lights are great when you are in an unlit area saved me getting mine and my passengers getting their feet wet on numerous occasions.
Current: GTI Edition 35 Candy White 5dr DSG 19" Glendale, RCD510+DAB, Dynaudio, Storage Pack, Parking Sensors

Gone: Edition 35, GTI Mk6, Edition 30, GTI Mk4, GTI Mk3, GTI Mk2 and my favourite the UR quattro
For those that dont know DSG is an electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearbox

I've never found the puddle lights useful once in the last 3 years. Perhaps I just don't go dogging in dodgy car parks like the rest of you?

Whoa! Steady on there... Your not telling me you've never gone for a meal somewhere and the carpark lighting is rubbish, with a car parked either side of you and looked down the side of the car to see if there is any dents???

And the puddle lights don't help?? Whatever...

Nope can't say I have, but the puddle lights on my old car were under the door not under the mirrors, and I've not parked anywhere dark by other cars, close enough for them to damage it, for a long, long time, if ever.

Would have liked these purely for theming factor, dare I ask if they retrofit cheaply although I suspect on the answer

I am fairly sure I have seen a thread on here and remember it isn't cheap.

Dont have these on mine but like you have said, dont think retrofit would be a cheap option epecially if you then start breaking the mirror glass.  Think ill live without the puddle lights and just be careful where im parking.
