When you've parked your car in an unlit gravel carpark and it's been pissin it down, they are definately not a gimmick!
I've never found the puddle lights useful once in the last 3 years. Perhaps I just don't go dogging in dodgy car parks like the rest of you?

Whatever...Nope can't say I have, but the puddle lights on my old car were under the door not under the mirrors, and I've not parked anywhere dark by other cars, close enough for them to damage it, for a long, long time, if ever.
