right went out today to test drive the S3 and what i can say is i left very disappointed there is no way that thing has 265bhp felt slow, sluggish, heavy in the corners, the gearbox was very notchy, & to top it off it developed a misfire half way through the test drive (the mazda 3 mps i test drove felt so much better).

Going to look at a mk5 R32 tomorrow so fingers crossed, this money is burning a hole in my pocket i even contemplated a supercharged ep3 civic TR

If you like driving and are considering an M3...you will find an S3 dull as dishwater.
It's efficient...and totally un-involving.

Are running costs important?
You have the 'M Tax' to deal with on the M3!

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

running costs aren't really an issue but tax is. I pay enough as it is.

I had an R32 and the S3 is and feels faster.

If you hadn't said it developed a misfire, I wouldn't be saying it didn't have 265bhp. For your price range you were probably looking at poor examples to be fair.
