Feels like these threads have been popping up so often recently.

Depends what you want really. If you're put of by the interior quality of the Evo/ Impreza option then I do wonder how satisfied you'll be with an MPS.

If you're drawn to the 330d because os mpg then nothing else on that list will compete with it for economy. But if you don't need it for economy then take it off the list. It's no where near as exciting to drive or own as the others.

And if you're looking for an M3 then a 330i probably isn't going to keep you satisfied for long.

That leaves the M3, the R32, the GTI and the S3.

There's been a few threads opened up about these very cars and the consensus was as follows:

M3: Too expensive when things go wrong and you'll be less than popular on the road although you'll be having some good fun.

R32: Nicest sounding engine but too thirsty and not very £££ effective to get more performance out of.

GTI: Standard car is pretty decent but the Edition 30 offers greater potential and kit.

S3: Edition 30 running gear with added traction. And it's and Audi so some folk might not like you.

Invariably the response on here will end up being that you should get an Edition 30. That advice will be based on the fact that a) we're a GTI forum and b) the Edition 30 is (until Mk6 Edition 35's come down in price) the most 'GTI bang for buck'.

Hope that helps.

the imprezas and evos put me of as ive owned a impreza RB5 and Evo 7 before. Servicing and MOT time used to very unwelcome time of the year.

i went for a test drive in the Mazda 3 MPS and was very suprised, handled well, pulled well, thought the interior was good

my Dad has a E92 M3 and recommended me the e46 m3

only chose a 330ci/330d as they were recommended by the mrs father

owned a R32 mk4 5 years ago, loved it but to many things went wrong

never tried a mk5 Gti/ed30

Booked in Friday to have a test drive of a S3

any more cars that people suggest? mpg aint a issue as ive got a works van for travelling.

The Leon Cupra/ Cupra K1 is worth a look too. Same running gear as the Edition 30 and Audi S3 but a bit prettier (IMO) although not quite as premium inside.
