Advice on selling 2.0 mk4?
« on: 17 June 2012, 18:13 »
So I need some advice on selling my car http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=228946.0
Been in that section for ages and still hasn't shifted. The wheels are now painted black and the car looks alot fresher. Engine is sound even for 160k.

Just need advice on selling it where to advertise ect

Try auto trader, ebay, gumtree

Anywhere but GTi forums, Reason I say that is because true enthusiast's know the 2.0 GTi is
utter sh!te!

Don't be offended, I also own a 2.0 GTi. I bought it as a family car so performance wasn't on the menu.

I didn't know much about VW's when I bought mine but had I of known how poo the 2.0 mk4 is I wouldn't have bothered.

Try selling it to average people who just want a car rather than the enthusiast who would rather the 1.8 N/A 1.8Turbo or even the GTtdi
over the 2.0

Just my oppinion

Updated pics to show the new wheels and 'freshness' will help. If it were me I'd be looking at finding a second hand tailgate which isn't rusty, this will be putting people off - it shouldn't cost you much from a breakers yard.

However I think your biggest problem is that there are lots of MK4's for sale at the moment and it is a buyers market. Yours is pretty high mileage, and the 2.0 is not a desirable engine, if people are looking for performance then they go for the 1.8T (or another car all together), if they are looking for fuel economy then they go for a derv.

Pictures of the interior, engine bay and service history/paperwork may also help.

I get your point of it not selling on forums ect because the 2.0 engine is well laughable.

Is piston heads still free to advertise on?
