Turbo on its way out...
« on: 17 June 2012, 10:29 »
Wrote in here the other day about a loud hissing/screaming noise coming from the engine bay. Turns out its not a boost leak at all it's the turbo on its way out  :shocked:

So my mate says I've got a choice of either getting the turbo reconditioned or buying a new one altogether.
The golf's a '04' AUM 150 so chances are its running on a K03's.
Is there a bigger direct fitment turbo for this engine code?
Ive heard about getting the internals of a K04 put inside a K03's (or i think i have  :laugh: ) what I'm thinking is, i might aswel spend the money now while its broken, rather than upgrading it again in the future?

Let me know what you lads thinks best? Or where i can buy/get a new turbo from?

Thanks Brett

After doing abit research and looking around i think a k03's hybrid is the way to go! Just got to find out where's the best place to get it done, anyone had one done recently?

Are you positive it is not a boost leak? If so how? Have you logged via vagcom?

My mates a mechanic, hes checked all the boost hoses and says it looks fine, he took it for a test drive & said the noise isn't a leaking noise its more turbo related.
Hes gonna take it off for me this week & have a good look at it anyway.

Theres a couple of sites I've been looking at for hybrid turbos, anyone know anything about them;

-This ones to buy (but I'm looking at getting mine built)

These guys do hybrid turbo's too but i can't seem to find much information about the ones they carry out;
