Engine cover
« on: 16 June 2012, 08:03 »
Has anyone painted theirs? I'm toying with CW or Black gloss. The idea then is just to accessorise the engine bay with Forge caps, oil, coolant and screen wash. I'll be looking for some alloy struts then.

i think if your are intent on doing it go for gloss black in keeping with the highlights on the car, white ones i've seen just look plain chav, i have a sever allergy to forge bling but would be going down the R8 route

Yeah I think the black would wear better too over the next three years. The only reservation I have with the R8 is that it doesn't really stand out. Have you had an experience with Forge stuff or is just a bling thing, haha.

the only reason i got the R8 oil cap was a mate was moving to Oz and having trouble shifting stuff, then realised when i'd bought it the plan was to run an intake so it would look bling as cover would go loll

forge stuff never has appealed from a taste/bling/engineering perspective, end of the day we all have our favourites but i was proud my rocco remained a forge free zone

major appeal of the Ed35 for me is its quite understated and discreet so i like the subtle stuff

I sprayed mine. I don't have any pics of it unfortunately. On the standard Mk6 GTI engine the cover comprised of an outer black section and an inner grey section which had a raised bit. I painted this raised bit red, the recessed grey bit black and picked out the lettering in silver. Looked really good and lasted 2 1/2 years (until I sold the car) without ever needing a touch up.
