You can get an extra module now that sits behind the unit and gives it full DAB using the OEM controls. Maybe it's that?

Nice car anyway OP and please report back on the DAB 510! I desperately need BBC 6 Music in my Golf, if nothing else just to annoy my wife who hates decent music...

Congrats on the new car.... I've an Ed30 which I can't bear to part with otherwise the Ed35 would be the obvious replacement!

Mind if I ask you about this:

[Ive also talked to Satnavsystems - compliments of this excellent forum, and they can supply a genuine VW 510 nav system - with DAB radio   for a fraction of the price that VW quote.[/quote]

I'd be really grateful to know what sort of money they've quoted you if you don't mind sharing?  PM me if you prefer...

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks for all the replies

In regard to the 510 unit Satnavsystems origionally quoted me about £1499 for the unit, lesss £200 p/x on my 510 radio unit However if you travel to them then its £120 less. I then found a thread on this forum which they offered a 510 unit - with 40gig memory for £1100,(VW quote a 30gig unit ) they immediately honoured this price which was great , then still offered another £120 discount for travelling up to them - however at this price no p/x on the old radio - I can live with that that at that price !

They can also add a unit for about £399 that provides DAB radio on the 510 Nav unit - from my point of view this ticked all the boxes, and whilst I know that I can get cheaper 'Ebay' units, I have the knowledge that these are VW supplied and brand new, as my VW dealer uses this guy for upgrades.  The upshot is that for about £1400 I get the latest 510 nav unit with DABS radio, and with full VW support for 3 years, professionally fitted and warrantied. Also VW cant supply a DABS 510 Nav unit - which is what I wanted in the 1st place. My car spec shows a 510 radio fitment, so if I like the golf and want to upgrade to a new GTI in a year or so when they are released, then hopefully I can just pop the radio back in and  port my Nav system to the new car

Thaks also for the polishing tips, I intend to pick up on a dry day  and clay then wax the car before it gets too much grime on it - hopefully this will  give it a clean start

Let us know how you find the dab add on unit. If you could ask what model it is too as a reference that would be good info for others.

That sounds horrifically expensive, I would rather have a Tom Tom one in the window and a holiday  :undecided:

Thanks for the feedback, if anyone can suggest a supplier thats cheaper then please let me know. I havent bought the unit yet, and was sharing the info with others in case anyone can let me know of a alternative supplier !

If I do go down this route then i'll find out the details on the add on DAB unit and post ofc, I have to say that I was quite amazed that VW havent put DAB on their supposed 'top of the range' nav system.
