Well that was an amusing read.

I paint cars and beggars belief what passes for a paint job these days.

Still in negotiations with dealer re repairs. Dealer came away with an amazing bit of Bullshyt, "ABS is an optional extra".
WTF!?!

Since when did ABS become an option, especially on a VRS TDi?

Honestly I really don't see why they don't just do the repair as goodwill seeing as my Dad has spent in about 60k with them in the last 5 years.
But oh no, they're arguing and now he's considering an S60...

Skoda dealers don't "do" customer service it would seem

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

tbh this conversation needs redoing when the mk5's and 6's are 'old'

but then it will be ' they don't make the mk7 and 8 like they did with the mk5'

Personally I think the mk2 has done a bloody good job of proving itself, being at least 20yrs old and still quite a few on the road. Look at their values! more than mk4's thats for sure. Can you see the newer cars fetching the same money when they are 20 yrs old?

don't think meany if any of the new cars will make 20 yrs old. unless they are something really spectial

lot of elecronics to go wrong and a lot of them are dealer only parts as well as being bloody expensive.

amount of new ish cars i've sent to scrap as they just wernt worth repairing

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

This is the reason they are made that way...generates more interest in another new one :afro:

Without reading the whole thread, I've had an 09 A3 from new and now I've got a new MK6 GTI. They've both been pretty crap to be honest. So far the GTI's had a new water pump (after 300 miles), gv gaiters greased, wind noise fix, wastegate rattle fix, bonnet/bumper realigned, new clutch, new slave cyl, and probably some other stuff. It's on 4,300 miles now, less than 4 months old. Most of that mileage is to the dealers and back

A3 has numerous things incl sensors, water pump, heater, horn etc etc can't really remember everything.

Funnily enough I had a Corsa before these and in 2 years it went in for an ABS recall and that's it.............

Indeed!

The water pump started making a really loud high pitched noise, it took a few attempts to get the dealership to replicate the problem. Eventually they did and replaced the pump. It came back after a few weeks but then disappeared and so far, touch wood, it's not come back again. Seems to be a massive problem on US spec GTI's from looking at different forums.

CV, wind noise, wastegate rattle, poor bonnet/bumper alignment - just down to poor design or workmanship. All seem to be a common problem

The car was mapped and I was getting some epic clutch slip
Fortunately I managed to convince the dealership that the slave was leaking (just a guess) and it actually was, so they stripped the gearbox and replaced the slave. Also as it had been slipping, the clutch was worn, so they replaced it too, despite the fact they know it's mapped so can't really complain too much.

I've had good service by the dealership but I will certainly consider not going VAG next time

I think you are lucky they didnt tell you to bugger off as it was remapped, ive had VW refuse to replace a 3 month intercooler hose that split on my mk4 as it was remapped  :lipsrsealed:
