Sorry but it wasn't...and it was TDi.

Spec ? or was it a cheapo no frills tdi ? I'm still sure it was better than a mk3 to drive

The MK5 / MK6 is light years ahead of the MK3 and MK4.  The fact they go round corners in standard form is a testament to that.

To be fair it was probably 'no frills' spec but it still had  a decent radio/air-con etc it just didn't feel as nice to drive as my mk3 and i'm not using rose tinted specs here, i know my car is 17 years old but i did over a thousand miles in the mk6 and it just didn't feel like a quality product in the same way that a mk3 would have done when new and still does feel to me.
I would expect to be shot down in flames if i only ever drove old mk3's but i drive a lot of different cars for one reason or another and they are all much newer than mine and the cars that stand out for quality in my experience are audi and subaru.

On what planet are audis and subapoos great quality.

just take a look inside a subaru and find me one thing thats oozes quality? look under the bonnet of virtually any audi and find a vw engine.. so where does the quality come from? the switches and button they have been using in all cars for the last 10years??

audis offer virtually nothing over the equivalent vw's.. apart from a premuim price and the knowledge that there are idiots out there that are willing to pay for this.

My brother in law had the last of the salon shape Scooby wagons and the interior was eye watering awful.
